The Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission affirmed their earlier decision to revoke the certificates of incorporation of Rappler Inc and Rappler Holdings Corporation.

After this decision, the International Fact-Checking Network, published a statement, signed from more than 66 fact-checking organizations around the world, which express their solidarity with Rappler and condemning the government’s efforts to shut down independent media.

The decision by the Philippine government poses a dangerous precedent and will likely encourage authoritarian regimes to go after other fact-checkers, especially if it succeeds.
